Seoul City cracks down on ”unlicensed guides” for foreign tourists = South Korea
On the 16th, the city of Seoul in South Korea announced that it had conducted a joint crackdown with relevant agencies in the Myeongdong area to eradicate illegal unlicensed guides providing guidance to foreign tourists.
According to the Tourism Promotion Act, only people who have obtained a tourist guide-interpreter license can provide tour guidance to foreigners. However, some travel agencies employ unlicensed guides.
The reality is that unlicensed guides are forcing foreign tourists to go shopping and telling them the wrong history of Seoul, lowering tourist satisfaction in Seoul.
The government plans to continue its efforts to eradicate illegal activities. Four people, including unlicensed guides, were arrested in this crackdown. They will be subject to administrative sanctions in accordance with the relevant laws.
Kim Yong Hwa, director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Tourism and Sports Bureau, said, "With autumn being a perfect time for sightseeing and a significant increase in foreign tourists visiting Seoul, it is important to create a healthy tourism environment."
"We will take strong action against illegal acts that disrupt the tourism order in Seoul and will build Seoul into a high-class tourist destination that people want to visit again and again," he said.
