UT, a joint venture between South Korean telecommunications giant SK Telecom (SKT) and U.S. ride-hailing giant Uber Technologies, is investigating items left behind in its ride-hailing service, Uber Taxi.
The survey was conducted over a one-year period from September 2023 to September 2024 to investigate the items that Korean passengers frequently forget, as well as the times of day and days of the week when items are most likely to be left behind.
As a result, the items passengers most often forget are smartphones, wallets, earphones, and ID cards. By day of the week, Sunday is the most common day for forgetting to do so, followed by Saturday and Friday.
The most common items left behind during the late night hours (until 1:00 a.m. the following morning) and early morning hours (between 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.) were smartphones, wallets, and bags, in that order. Customers who left their earphones late at night and glasses and sunglasses early in the morning were more likely to leave their earphones behind.
Among the items left behind were some unusual items, such as a taiyaki-making kit, a glow stick for supporting idols, a snail figurine, and a cucumber.
