Two injured in golf ball accident during marathon in Incheon
It has been revealed that a participant in a marathon in Incheon, South Korea, was injured after being hit by a golf ball flying from a nearby golf course.
According to Yonhap News on the 19th, on the 6th of this month at around 9:10 am, a man was killed in a car crash at a golf course in Songdo-dong, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon.
A (30), who was running near the golf course, was hit in the face by a flying golf ball. A sustained injuries to his chin and cheek and was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance for treatment.
It was discovered that Mr. A was taking part in a 10km marathon at the time and was involved in an accident while running along the coastal road and around the golf course.
In addition to Mr. A, another male participant was reportedly running around the golf course when a flying golf ball hit him in the face and he received treatment.
Mr. A said, "I was driving in a crowded area when I suddenly heard a loud 'pop' and felt such intense pain that I couldn't regain my senses for a moment." After the accident, he contacted the golf course.
"Even though they were hit, they continued playing golf without any concern, and some people even got hit by golf balls," he told Yonhap News.
"We will file a police complaint against the golf course for failing to properly manage safety, resulting in injury due to professional negligence," he said. "There were many children among the participants that day, and some were even carrying strollers, so one wrong move could have resulted in a major accident.
The golf course expressed regret over the accident, but said there was no security camera footage proving the location of the accident and that the customer who caused the accident was not identified.
A golf course official told Yonhap News, "To prevent accidents involving hitting balls, we plant metasequoia trees on the outside of the golf course every year and also plant small ones inside the course.
"We are planting new trees," he said.
