South Korea's foreign residents reached a record high of 2.46 million last year... Increase in workers and international students

Last year, there was a significant increase in the number of foreign workers and international students, with the number of long-term foreign residents in South Korea hitting a record high of about 2.46 million.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety of Korea analyzed the data from the Statistics Korea Population and Housing General Survey and announced the results of the "2023
The 2019 Status of Foreign Residents in Local Governments was released on the 24th. According to the analysis, as of Nov. 1 of last year, the number of foreign residents residing in South Korea for three months or more was 2,459,542.
This is the highest number since the related statistics were first released in 2006, and was 2.26 million at the time of analysis last year. The number of foreign residents is roughly 1.2 times the total population of South Korea (51,774,521 million) according to the Population and Housing Census.
Of these, those without Korean nationality increased by 182,804 (10.4%) to 1,935,150, while those who had acquired Korean nationality were 10,681 (4.8%).
The number of children born in South Korea to foreign residents increased by 7,809 (2.8%) to 289,886.
Compared to last year's statistics, the number of foreign workers and international students has increased to 67,111 (16.6%) and 16,932 (8.
This is interpreted as a result of the increase in the influx of foreign residents due to the government's expansion of the non-professional employment visa (E-9) and other measures to expand the introduction of foreign labor.
