Per capita disposable income in 31 Chinese provinces exceeds 60,000 in Shanghai and Beijing - Chinese report
The National Bureau of Statistics of China recently released data on per capita disposable income for 31 provinces (districts and cities) from January to September 2024. Shanghai and Beijing were the top two with over 60,000 formers, followed by Zhejiang.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the gross domestic product (GDP) for January-September was 94.97 trillion formers (approximately 2027 trillion yen), which is 1.2 times the previous year's figure when calculated at constant prices.
This was a 4.8% increase from the same period last year. The average disposable income per resident nationwide was 30,941 formers (approximately 660,000 yen), up 5.2% from the nominal figure for the same period last year, and 4.5% in real terms excluding the effects of price fluctuations.
By province (district/city), Shanghai ranked first with a disposable income per resident of 66,341 formers (about 1.416 million yen), followed by Beijing with 64,314 formers (about 13,000 yen).
Tianjin, Jiangsu and Guangdong provinces all had over 40,000 formers, with Guangdong having 40,103.
It was the first time that 7formers (about 876,000 yen) exceeded 40,000 formers. Fujian Province, Shandong Province, and Chongqing City also exceeded 30,000 formers. Of these, Chongqing City had 30,792 formers (about 657,000 yen), the first time that it exceeded 40,000 formers.
The number of formers exceeded 30,000. In addition, Guizhou Province exceeded 20,000 formers for the first time, reaching 20,866 formers (approximately 445,000 yen).
The provinces that exceeded the national average (30,941 formers) were Shanghai, Beijing, Zhejiang, Tianjin, Jiangsu, and Guangdong.
In the first nine months of the year, the national average per capita consumption expenditure increased 5.6% to 20,631 formers (approximately 440,000 yen). In real terms, excluding the effects of price fluctuations, the average per capita consumption expenditure increased 5.3% to 20,631 formers (approximately 440,000 yen).
This was an increase that exceeded the rate of increase in disposable income per resident during the same period. By province (district/city), Shanghai ranked first in per capita consumption expenditure at 39,626 former (approximately 846,000 yen).
Next came Beijing with 36,581 formers (about 780,000 yen), and Zhejiang Province with 33,547 formers (about 716,000 yen).
