According to documents submitted by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, 59% of daycare centers across the country had sex offenders living within a one kilometer radius.
The rates were 51% in kindergartens, 45% in elementary schools, 48% in middle schools, and 53% in high schools.
Looking at the regions, Seoul had the highest percentage of sex offenders living within a 1-kilometer radius of daycare centers, kindergartens, primary schools, middle schools, and high schools.
In particular, nursery schools (83%), kindergartens (82%), and elementary schools (82%) exceeded 80%, while junior high schools and high schools also exceeded 80%.
The percentage of schools with sex offenders living within a 1-kilometer radius of 8 out of 10 schools was 79%.
According to the "2020 Sexual Crime White Paper" published by the Ministry of Justice, there were 74,000 cases in the 10 years from 2009 to 2018.
There are 956 sex offenders on the criminal record, of which 2,901 have re-registered. Of these, 62.4% (1,811) have committed sex offenses again within the past three years.
