Through the operation of this gas supply network, Korea Gas Corporation will supply up to 147,000 tons of natural gas per year to over 90,000 households and 200 industrial entities.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (equivalent to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in Japan) and Korea Gas Corporation are working to meet the growing demand for natural gas in the region by completing the 13th Long-Term Natural Gas Supply Plan in 2018.
The decision to move forward with this project was made during the process of formulating a natural gas supply and demand plan. Korea Gas Corporation invested 54 billion won (US$54 billion) over two years to complete the construction.
Following this construction of the pipeline, Korea Gas Corporation will complete the construction of a 44km pipeline connecting Wanju and Jinan in January next year, completing a total of 623km of pipelines in North Jeolla Province.
The plan is to build a circular pipeline network. A circular pipeline network is a network of detours that splits into multiple sections in case of breakdowns in the pipeline. A Korea Gas Corporation official said, "We are looking forward to building a circular pipeline network in the northern part of Jeollabuk-do.
"We will build a more detailed system that will increase benefits for local residents and contribute to revitalizing the local economy."
