China Association of Automobile Manufacturers protests against EU's decision to impose additional tariffs on BEVs - Chinese media
The European Commission has decided to impose countervailing duties of 7.8% to 35.3% on new battery electric vehicles (BEVs) imported from China, with the duties to come into effect on the 30th of the same month.
The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers expressed strong opposition to the EU's announcement that it would begin the process of implementing the tariffs. The association said, "This final decision (from the EU side) is not objective and is not something that Chinese automakers should be subject to.
"The additional tariffs are not only against the basic principles of free trade and fair competition, but also undermine cooperation between China and the EU in the automobile industry and are extremely unfair to China," he said.
The Chinese auto industry said it would file a lawsuit under the World Trade Organization's (WTO) dispute settlement system to force the Chinese government to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.
The government will fully defend and support this.
