UN Security Council to hold meeting on North Korean ICBM launch on the 4th
The United Nations Security Council is expected to hold a meeting on the 4th (local time) to discuss North Korea's ICBM (long-range ballistic missile) launch.
On the 31st, the foreign ministers of Japan, the United States and South Korea strongly condemned North Korea's ICBM launch and stated that they would "continue to work closely with the international community to achieve the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula."
Reuters quoted a diplomatic source as saying, "The seven Security Council members -- South Korea, the United States, France, Japan, Malta, Slovenia and the United Kingdom -- announced on the same day that they would cooperate closely with North Korea.
"We strongly condemn North Korea's ICBM launch," UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a statement.
"North Korea's repeated missile launches using BM technology are a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions," he said. "We remain concerned about the situation on the Korean Peninsula," he added.
He reiterated his call for the full implementation of Security Council resolutions on easing tensions and the creation of an environment for dialogue.
