Up to 10 consecutive days off possible; company employees hope this date will be designated a public holiday next year = South Korea
It has been revealed that if October 10, 2025, is designated as a public holiday in South Korea (corresponding to a national holiday in Japan), the holiday will last for up to 10 days.
On the 31st of last month, SK Communications' current affairs poll service NeatoQ conducted a poll titled "What alternative holiday would you like to see in 2025?"
According to a survey on "Public Holiday Designation Days," 57% of the 2,602 respondents chose October 10th. The second most popular date was December 26th (18%), which allows for a four-day holiday. The third most popular date was December 26th (18%), which allows for a six-day Lunar New Year holiday.
In fourth place was January 31st (14%), when a public holiday can be celebrated, and in fourth place was October 2nd (4%), when a public holiday can be celebrated for eight days. Related comments in the survey included the wish that "there should be a public holiday in November as well."
Other comments included, "I'm grateful and happy that I have a long Golden Week, apart from having a few days off," and "If the holidays are long, I can take time to rest when I have time off, even if I'm busy after the holidays.
Some opinions were expressed such as, "It would be good to have alternative public holidays following important holidays such as Lunar New Year and the mid-autumn festival so that people can go to their hometowns and relax," and "It would be good to have alternative public holidays following important holidays such as Lunar New Year and the mid-autumn festival so that people can go to their hometowns and relax."
On the other hand, there were also negative opinions about the increase in holidays. "Even if we were able to transfer holidays, it would be difficult to take consecutive days off due to the nature of our work," "Occasional rest is more valuable. Taking a day off every day makes you lazy,
"If I arrive to work the next day, it's even harder," said Ahn Ji-seon, head of the media services team at SK Com, who said, "The overwhelming response to the survey was that people wanted a long holiday, but it was not a short-term response.
I think this reflects a social trend where people prefer to take time to recharge by traveling or self-developing, away from the everyday routine, rather than taking long breaks to recharge. However, there are concerns that frequent consecutive holidays can disrupt work rhythms.
It is also important to note that the expansion of alternative public holidays does not receive the support of the majority, as some have expressed the view that it is necessary to take measures such as not allowing holidays on holidays.
