On the 7th, Big Hit Music, the agency of ‘BTS’, told Herald POP "We are discussing closely with the artists about the activity plans of BTS after their discharge from the military. Once specific plans, such as timing and methods, are decided, we will inform fans at the appropriate time."
During a recent HYBE performance report conference call, CFO (Chief Financial Officer) Lee Kyung-jun's reference to ‘BTS’ attracted attention.
On that day, CFO Lee was asked about the extent of HYBE's projected sales contribution in 2026, the year after all ‘BTS’ members are discharged from the military.
In response, CFO Lee said "We are still in the process of discussing 2026 activities with the members. Therefore, no projection has been made now" and replied that “if we decide to make a comeback with a complete body, there will be considerable sales, but at the same time, with the growth of our other artists new projects, we expect the weight of sales will not be as high as in the past."
However, the focus in the response was on the ‘activity under discussion’ and various exchanges went back and forth, leading to speculation that BTS' complete post-discharge activities had been invalidated.
In September last year, Big Hit Music re-signed exclusive contracts with the seven members of ‘BTS’, stating that "this has made it possible for BTS to carry out their desired complete activities together in 2025." The members of ‘BTS’, who already signed one re-signing contract with Big Hit Music in 2018, have also talked about their plans for complete activities in 2025.
Recently, due to the controversy surrounding the leak of HYBE's internal documents and member SUGA's drunk driving, there was a theory in the online community after the conference that the plan may have been invalidated in the aftermath of the series of events regarding the discussion of ‘BTS’'s complete activities.
However, as the statement by CFO Lee was an answer to a question that focused on the sales of the 2026 tour, their agency stated that they were ‘closely discussing their post-discharge activity plan’ in the situation where the theory of invalidation of their complete body activities was raised.
Meanwhile, the five members of BTS, excluding JIN and J-HOPE who were discharged from the military, are currently fulfilling their national defence duties.
