BMW Group Korea teams up with Korea Electric Power Corporation to launch charging service in December (Korea)
BMW Group Korea, the Korean subsidiary of German car giant BMW, announced that it has signed a contract with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) to provide the charging technology "Plug and Charge (PnC)" service.
The service is scheduled to start in early December. PnC is the first Korean car importer to operate an electric vehicle (EV) charger, jointly with BMW Group Korea and Korea Electric Power Corporation.
This charging technology has been certified with the communication standard ISO15118. By simply connecting the cable to the EV, the system automatically recognizes vehicle information and simultaneously authenticates the user and performs payment.
BMW Group Korea has received electronic certificates using the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) from Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO).
Through this partnership, BMW EVs can be charged at PnC charging stations operated by Korea Electric Power Corporation and other brands.
Charging services will be available at PnC chargers. In particular, PnC can generate up to five PnC charging contract certificates, making it possible to provide a wide range of E-mobility (electric vehicle) service providers with a single PnC charging contract.
The system can be installed in the vehicles of eMSPs. The two companies also plan to expand their cooperation in the VtoG field, where the remaining energy in the vehicle battery can be provided and sold to the power grid.
