The International Association for the Assessment of Educational Achievement (IEA) announced this on the 12th of this month.
According to the results of the International Computer and Information Literacy Study (ICILS) 2023, Korean second-year middle school students
The average score for computer and information literacy was 540 points, the highest among the 32 countries. In this survey, 132,998 students from 5,299 schools in 34 countries participated, with 152 schools and 2nd-grade middle school students from Korea taking part.
A total of 3,723 first-year students participated. In terms of computer and information literacy, Korea was followed by the Czech Republic (525 points), Denmark (518 points), and Taiwan (515 points), among others.
Korean students were also found to excel in computational thinking. The average score for computational thinking in Korea was 537 points, 5th out of 22 countries, and 6th out of 10,000 in Taiwan.
On the other hand, "self-efficacy," which indicates confidence in completing tasks using computer-based programs, was ranked second after 47 points in the Computer and Information Literacy category and 48 points in the Computer Literacy category.
In the computational thinking section, Japan received 49 points, which is below the international average (50 points each).
