FBI raids PolyMarket CEO's home; Bitcoin plummets
The FBI has raided the home of the CEO of Polymarket, the world's largest cryptocurrency betting site, according to cryptocurrency media outlet CoinDesk.
The FBI reported on the 13th (local time). PolyMarket is said to have manipulated the market in response to investors overwhelmingly betting on Trump's victory in the US presidential election.
"The outgoing administration's complaint against PolyMarket for providing a market that allowed them to correctly predict the 2024 presidential elections," a PolyMarket spokesperson said in a statement.
"This is clear political retaliation," he said. He added that PolyMarket is a fully transparent prediction market that helps the public better understand important events, including elections.
In 2022, Polymarket decided to block Americans from accessing its services as part of an agreement with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
Despite this ban, Americans can still access the platform through virtual private networks (VPNs).
