Wife of main opposition party leader fined for using company card to entertain husband during presidential primary election

Kim Hye-kyung, the wife of Lee Jae-myung, the party leader who is on trial for allegedly providing entertainment worth about 11,500 won (about 11,500 yen), was sentenced to a fine in the first trial.
On the 14th, the Suwon District Court sentenced Kim, who was indicted on charges of violating the Public Offices Election Act, to a fine of 1.5 million won (approximately 167,000 yen). Prior to this, the prosecution had sought a fine of 3 million won.
The court said, "After his spouse Lee Jae-myung declared her candidacy for the presidential election, she met with people who would be beneficial to the election and paid for their meals.
On August 2, 2021, Kim provided meals for a total of six people, including three wives of former and current members of the National Assembly of the same party, as well as her own driver and three companions, at a restaurant in Seoul.
He was indicted on the charges in February of this year.
