Considering that the number of passengers on Japan-Korea air routes this year has continued to record around 2 million per month, it is expected to exceed the annual record by around the middle of this month at the latest.
The aviation industry attributes the surge in passenger numbers to the increase in Korean tourists visiting Japan due to the weakening of the yen, which began in earnest last year.
In addition, the number of flights to Japan has increased by 29% from 87,230 flights in January to October last year to 112,528 flights in the same period this year.
The number of travelers from China has increased. As of the 8th of this month, China has allowed Koreans to enter the country without a visa, and some of the demand for short-haul routes to Japan may shift to China.
Last year, the number of passengers on China-Korea routes was 6.84 million, just 35% of the number on Japan-Korea routes, but from January to October this year, the number of passengers on China-Korea routes increased to 56% (11.56 million).
