[Official] SEVENTEEN's SEUNGKWAN appointed as Jeju ambassador for his hometown... ”I'm proud to be a Jeju resident”
SEUNGKWAN of the Korean boy band SEVENTEEN has been appointed as a public relations ambassador to promote his hometown of Jeju.
On the afternoon of the 19th, SEUNGKWAN attended the appointment ceremony held at the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Communication and Cooperation Center in Ildo 1-dong, Jeju City, and was appointed as the public relations ambassador.
This occasion is especially meaningful as Jeju former member SEUNGKWAN was recognized for his contributions to the global promotion of the region.
At the appointment ceremony, Seungkwan said, "Since I was a child, I have felt proud to be a Jeju citizen. So when I had the opportunity to speak at the UNESCO Youth Forum last year, I decided to become the World Heritage Site.
"I feel a strong desire to promote Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, where I am from. I am deeply moved and grateful to have been appointed as a promotional ambassador for Jeju."
He continued, "I have been working with the desire to give more positive energy and hope to the people of Jeju," and "I will continue to support the people of Jeju in the future."
We plan to work harder so that we can promote our group and SEVENTEEN to the whole world, so please keep an eye on us."
Jeju Governor Oh Young-hoon said, "I am pleased that a world-famous artist from Jeju will be serving as an ambassador for his hometown.
"I look forward to serving as a cultural diplomat who will convey to the world Jeju's pure nature, culture and arts, and its value as an island of world peace."
Since the appointment ceremony, SEUNGKWAN has participated in the Jeju Hometown Tax Donation and contributed to the protection of Jeju's bottlenose dolphins.
"I've been thinking for quite some time about how I can help Jeju, and I'm happy to be able to express my love for my hometown through this opportunity," he said.
Since their debut in 2015, SEUNGKWAN has shot many variety shows, photo shoots, and commercials in Jeju, promoting Jeju to global K-POP fans.
Last November, SEVENTEEN released a special performance video of "God of Music" that they shot in Jeju at the 13th UNESCO Youth Forum.
In his speech, Seungkwan mentioned that Jeju was the first region in the world to be designated by UNESCO in three categories in the field of natural environment at the same time.
Meanwhile, Pledis Entertainment (hereinafter referred to as Pledis Entertainment) signed a business agreement with the Jeju Provincial Government in September this year to promote Jeju K-POP content.
The two parties agreed to cooperate to promote the Jeju culture tourism industry and the production of K-POP content in Jeju and to enhance the brand value of Cheju Island and Pledis.
The plan is to establish a cooperative system for this purpose.
