On the 20th (local time), the SEC announced in a letter issued on the same day proposed rule changes to allow cryptocurrency index ETFs to be listed on the federal register on October 8, 2024.
"The Commission specified a longer period to allow it time to fully consider the proposed rule changes and related issues," an SEC official said.
The Commission has determined that it is appropriate to provide a written notice to the Board to approve or reject the rule change under section 19(b)(2) of the Act.
The SEC said it will set a deadline of January 6, 2025 for the initiation or denial of the proceedings. Meanwhile, Franklin Templeton filed for a cryptocurrency index ETF with the SEC in August.
