According to data, China's total seafood production will reach 71.16 million tons in 2023, ranking first in the world for the 35th consecutive year.
The high production volume is due to the "aquaculture-based" approach that China has maintained in recent years. Facility-based fisheries, such as deep-sea and deep-ocean aquaculture, factory-based aquaculture, land-based recirculating water aquaculture, and aquaponics, have rapidly expanded.
In the marine sector, China has built 169 national-level marine farms, with a deep-sea and ocean aquaculture scale of 56.6 million cubic meters and production of 470,000 tons.
In the inland areas, the standard level of aquaculture sites has been constantly improved, and various aquaculture models such as cold water aquaculture, rice paddy aquaculture, and salt-alkali water aquaculture have been vigorously developed.
Currently, the ratio of farmed and caught seafood in China has changed from 75:25 in 2016 to 82:18, and aquaculture production accounts for 60% of the world's total.
It accounts for nearly 0%.
