”If you don't wear makeup, you get a zero”... University professor in debate over dress code in class (South Korea)
A professor at a university in Incheon, South Korea, has come under fire for demanding that students wear a specific outfit during class presentations. The university has launched an investigation into the matter after students reacted to the incident.
According to Yonhap News on the 22nd, the student council of a certain university in Incheon filed a formal investigation against Professor A, who demanded excessive dress code during presentation time for major classes and announced that points would be deducted if the code was not followed.
According to a vote held by the student council on the 19th, 2,257 of the 2,292 current students (98.5%) were in favor of a formal investigation.
Recently, a problem was raised in the university's online community about Professor A's teaching methods, sparking a debate.
According to the students, Professor A made public announcements requiring students to change their hairstyle, make up, and wear shoes, and to wear glasses and other clothing.
He banned partial dyeing, baggy clothing, etc. Students claimed that he said, "If you show up without makeup or glasses, you get a zero."
In addition, Professor A's following over 20 accounts related to exposing women's bodies on social media is also inappropriate behavior.
In response, Professor A said, "The dress code only applies to the evaluation at the graduation recital, which takes place once every two years, and I have never given students any guidance on their appearance."
He explained.
