Reuters reported that the Trump transition team is pushing the idea in the hope of reducing the risk of armed conflict with North Korea through such diplomatic efforts.
However, the report noted that discussions on this policy are fluid and that President-elect Trump has not made a final decision.
They then decided not to go beyond additional policy goals or precise timetables.
"If President Trump proposes a meeting with Chairman Kim, it may happen," he said.
President Joe Biden said he was willing to meet with Chairman Kim Jung Eun without preconditions to work toward the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, but North Korea did not agree.
Instead, Kim has expanded his missile arsenal and cooperated closely with Russia. President-elect Trump met with Kim three times during his first term, in Singapore, Hanoi and Panmunjom.
At the time, President Trump described the meeting as "falling in love," but the diplomacy between the two leaders produced no concrete results. The United States demanded that North Korea give up its nuclear weapons program, and North Korea agreed to complete sanctions relief.
and the two sides were at odds.
