Heavy snow causes car overturns and other damage in southern Gyeonggi, South Korea

Snow is falling across Gyeonggi Province on the 27th, causing cars to overturn or become stranded, and downing roadside trees, among other damage.

A heavy snow warning has been issued for Pyeongchon County, and a heavy snow advisory has been issued for 13 municipalities in southern Gyeonggi Province, including Gwacheon, and 10 municipalities in northern Gyeonggi Province.
Heavy snowfall warnings were issued for seven municipalities: Osan, Pyeongtaek, Yongin, Anseong, and Hwaseong.
Yangpyeong recorded 19.1 centimeters of snowfall between 0:00 and 6:00 a.m. today.
The snow was heavy in northern Gyeonggi Province, with 12.3 cm in Pocheon and 12.1 cm in Uijeongbu. The average snowfall was calculated to be 6.2 cm.
Due to snowfall that continued through the night, a truck overturned under a river in Sangsangok-dong, Hanam City at around 5:10 a.m.
The truck driver escaped on his own and was reportedly not seriously injured. In Majang-myeon, Icheon-si and Choil-dong, Hanam-si, vehicles were stranded on snowy roads and firefighters were called to the scene.
Authorities were on the scene of rescue efforts. Road closures due to snow also occurred in Namhansanseong-myeon, Gwangju City, and Yangdong-myeon, Yangpyeong County, and safety measures were taken.
Gyeonggi Province has been responding to the heavy snowfall by operating the first level of the Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters since 11 p.m. on the 26th. The first level of the emergency system is being implemented with the head of the Gyeonggi Province Natural Disaster Division as the responsible officer, and the road safety division as the responsible officer.
A total of 16 people are working in the fields of agriculture, railways, etc. In addition, 2,128 pieces of equipment and 3,184 personnel are mobilized to carry out snow removal work, including spreading 9,488 tons of snow-clearing agent.
The Korea Meteorological Administration predicts that up to 20 centimeters of snow will fall in Gyeonggi Province between the early hours of the 27th and the 28th.
