This is the result of a survey conducted by the Korean data consulting company "PMI" in May this year on 3,000 men and women aged 18 and over.
However, this survey was conducted before actor Jung Woo Sung (51 years old) admitted to having a child out of wedlock and before "childbirth out of wedlock" became a hot topic in Korean society.
According to the survey results, 30.3% of respondents answered that they were in favor of non-marital childbirth. In particular, more than 35% of respondents in their 20s and 30s showed a positive attitude toward non-marital childbirth.
On the other hand, the percentage of people in their 60s and older who were in favor was 20.8%. In addition, it was found that 57.1% of people have a positive view of "non-marital cohabitation," where people just live together without getting married.
Again, the positive percentage was higher among those in their 20s (74.2%) and 30s (67.3%), while the figure for those 60 and older was 35.7%.
Regarding marriage registration after marriage, 38.4% of respondents were in favor of not filing a marriage registration, while 61.6% were in favor of not filing a marriage registration.
"The change in perception regarding non-marital childbirth reflects structural changes in Korean society," said Cho Min-hee, president of the PMI.
"The main reasons for this change include weakening traditional views on marriage, economic insecurity and increased awareness of gender equality," he said.
