South Korea arrests blackmailer who hacked 1.4TB of data from major law firm and demanded 30 BTC in Bitcoin
A man in his 30s was arrested by police after threatening a major law firm in South Korea that he would release hacked internal documents unless the firm provided a huge amount of virtual currency, and then fled overseas.
According to the police, on the 29th, Seocho Police Station in Seoul arrested suspect A (33), who was issued a red notice by Interpol for attempted blackmail, on the 27th.
In August, suspect A hacked into law firm B, one of the top 10 law firms in Korea, and extracted 1.4 TB of company documents.
After B law firm filed a complaint and police began an investigation, suspect A fled to Thailand.
After the suspect was arrested at Incheon Airport, an arrest warrant was issued. The police are continuing their investigation into the suspect.
