The building was built with funds raised through the 815 Run, a charity marathon held by Park Byeong-doo every year on Liberation Day (Korean Independence Day).
He led farmers in demonstrations against the government's tyranny in collecting farm fees. The South Korean government awarded him the Order of National Foundation in 2005 in recognition of his achievements in leading the anti-Japanese peasant movement.
The family of Park Byeong-doo's descendants said, "My great-grandfather gave all his assets to the independence movement, and my parents have had a very hard time up until now," and "My father, who was involved but not free, was in a difficult position in his previous home.
It was dangerous and I couldn't go outside much, but since we moved into our new house I've been going for walks and my strength and condition have improved," he said gratefully.
Xiong said, "I want to pass on my gratitude to those who dedicated their lives to their country to their descendants.
"I want to convey that message on their behalf," he said, "and I will continue until the day the 100th house is built so that more people can remember those who made the Republic of Korea what it is today."
