Paul Atkins was a Republican former member of the SEC during the George W. Bush administration, serving as a commissioner from 2002 to 2008.
He later founded Patmac Global Partners, a consulting firm that primarily serves financial companies.
However, Atkins is said to be hesitant to accept the role.
