On the 4th, six opposition parties in South Korea - the Democratic Party of Korea (Democratic Party), the Fatherland Reform Party, the New Reform Party, the Progressive Party, the Basic Income Party, and the Social Democratic Party - submitted an impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol to the National Assembly.
They plan to present the impeachment motion to the plenary session at around midnight on the 5th, with a vote expected to begin around midnight on the 6th.
Six opposition parties visited the National Assembly at 2:43 p.m. that day and submitted the impeachment motion.
They said, "President Yoon, at around 10:28 pm on the 3rd, has not met any of the requirements for constitutional amendment,
The reason for the impeachment was that the president violated the Constitution and the law by declaring a meaningless emergency state of emergency." The impeachment bill was signed by the National Assembly Speaker and the members of the six opposition parties, excluding the ruling People's Power Party.
The list includes 191 names. The opposition parties plan to hold a plenary session at midnight on the 5th to report the impeachment motion. The "impeachment motion" must be submitted within 24 hours and 72 hours from the time it is reported.
A "vote" must be held. Therefore, the vote is expected to take place between the 6th and 7th. The impeachment bill also requires the support of more than two-thirds (200) of the members of the National Assembly.
Therefore, for the bill to pass, at least eight members of the ruling party (108 members) must also vote in favor.
