The pro-cryptocurrency statements of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell and the appointment of a representative pro-cryptocurrency figure as the next chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have led to a number of positive developments.
Bitcoin (BTC) has finally surpassed $100,000. As of 1:19 pm on the 5th, Bitcoin was trading at 24:00 on CoinMarketCap, a global coin market relay site.
It has surged 7.22% since the last time it was last traded, hitting $100,274. This is the first time Bitcoin has ever topped $100,000.
This was in response to Fed Chairman Powell's statement that "Bitcoin is a competitor to gold" and President-elect Trump's request to the SEC Chairman to take responsibility for cryptocurrency.
This is thought to be due to the appointment of former Commissioner Paul Atkins, who was friendly to the currency.
