US President-elect Donald Trump said he "welcomes" Bitcoin hitting the $100,000 mark.
He posted on the 5th (local time) on True Social, a social networking site he created.
In a statement, he said, "I welcome it," and added, "I congratulate the Bitcoin issuer and thank him for raising Bitcoin to $100,000. Together we can rebuild America."
"It will make it even greater," he said. The previous day, Bitcoin surged to $103,900 (about 15.59 million yen), surpassing $100,000 for the first time in history.
This comes after President-elect Trump appointed former Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Commissioner Paul Atkins, a leading pro-cryptocurrency figure.
This is because he was appointed as the new chairman. However, a large amount of profit-taking selling occurred today, and the price fell by about 3% to the 96,000 dollar (about 14.4 million yen) level.
Meanwhile, Bitcoin has soared 42% since Trump's election and 133% soared so far this year.
