The results of a public opinion poll released on the 9th showed that the majority of respondents agreed that the government should take measures to protect the country. The poll was conducted by Media Research, a South Korean polling agency, on the 8th of this month and targeted 1,007 men and women aged 18 and over.
According to a survey, 52.4% of respondents chose Lee as the next president, followed by Han Dong-hoon, chairman of the ruling People Power Party, at 9.8% and Oh.
Seoul Mayor Oh Sehun received 6.7%, Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo received 4.9%, Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon received 3.9%, and Kim Kyo-yo received 4.7%.
Former South Gyeongsang Province Governor Kim Kyung-soo received 3.1% of the votes, followed by "other" at 6.1%, "none" at 5.5% and "don't know" at 2.2%.
A Media Research source said, "While the impeachment motion against President Yoon was scrapped due to the ruling party's collective abstention, and political turmoil continues, Chairman Lee has made a decision to hold a meeting with all regions and all ages.
"Lee's approval rating soared among this demographic," the report said, "overwhelming other candidates, with approval ratings for Lee ranging from 3.5 to 5.4 times higher than that of second-place candidate Han."
