韓国、外国労働者「100万人時代」…滞在外国人の17%「差別の経験あり」

The number of foreign workers in South Korea topped one million for the first time this year. Half of them are working in the manufacturing industry, with temporary and day laborers making up more than 30% of wage jobs.
According to the results of the "2024 Immigrant Residence Status and Employment Survey" released by the Korea National Statistical Office on the 17th, as of May this year, there were 1,561,000 foreigners aged 15 or older living in Korea.
This is an increase of 130,000 (9.1%) from the previous year. Of these, the number of workers was 1.01 million, an increase of 87,000 from the previous year. The number of foreign workers exceeded 1 million.
Meanwhile, satisfaction with life in Korea among foreigners residing in Korea was relatively high, at 84.3 percent.
However, 17.4% answered that they had experienced discrimination in the past year because of their former member country or Korean language ability.
