EU launches TikTok investigation into alleged interference in Romanian presidential election

The European Union (EU) has launched an investigation into TikTok over allegations of Russian interference in the Romanian presidential election.

Candidate Georgescu won first place with 22.94% of the votes. Candidate Georgescu had only 0.4% support in October, just two months ago, but he has increased his recognition through his TikTok campaign.
It is analyzed that in this process, about 25,000 Telegram accounts intensively uploaded posts related to candidate Georgievscu to TikTok about six months before the election day.
According to declassified documents from the Romanian Intelligence Agency (SRI) released to local media, it is highly likely that a "very aggressive Russian hybrid attack" was carried out.
