On the 19th, South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that it had imposed fines on three airlines - Korean Air, Delta Air Lines, and Air Astana - for violating the Aviation Business Act.
On the 3rd, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism notified each airline of the results of the Administrative Action Review Committee's deliberations in advance and, after listening to the opinions of these airlines,
On July 23, Korean Air had a flight from Incheon to Delhi undergo maintenance due to an aircraft malfunction, and while the aircraft was preparing to take off again, passengers were forced to wait in the waiting area for four hours and eight minutes.
According to airline regulations, passengers are not allowed to wait on board an aircraft in the waiting area for more than four hours (for international flights).
Delta Air Lines also reported that a passenger died on an Incheon-Atlanta flight on August 24 after an aircraft malfunction had been repaired and was preparing to take off again.
The passengers were kept waiting for 4 hours and 58 minutes on board. Delta Air Lines did not report fares for its new Incheon-Salt Lake City route, which is scheduled to begin on June 12 next year, to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
Air Astana also sold tickets without reporting the fare for the Incheon-Astana route, thus violating the fare reporting obligation.
"We have imposed appropriate disciplinary measures on airlines for violating regulations that could cause inconvenience and harm to air traffic users," said Kim Yong-guk, aviation policy officer at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
"We will continue to monitor and supervise airlines to ensure that they comply with aviation laws and regulations."
