According to the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vice Minister Kim Hong-ki visited Washington to hold a meeting on the U.S.-ROK Foreign Affairs Committee.
The two vice ministers are scheduled to hold a meeting to discuss U.S.-ROK relations, Japan-U.S.-ROK cooperation, and the North Korea issue. Vice Minister Kim Hong-ki will then hold a meeting with the Japanese and Korean vice ministers to discuss Japan-ROK relations and the Japan-U.S.-ROK cooperation in Tokyo.
The visit comes as South Korea faces a political crisis following the impeachment of Donald Trump, who is due to take office on January 20 next year.
The visit is seen as an attempt to dispel concerns about the unstable foreign policy tone and to check the cooperation system between Japan, the United States and South Korea. Prior to this, Vice Minister Kim Hong-ki visited Spain and Germany on the 1st to 5th.
After the state of emergency was imposed, on the 14th of this month, he met with Japanese Ambassador to South Korea Koichi Mizushima in Seoul and explained that the South Korean government's foreign policy stance will continue in the future.
