Bosingak's ”New Year's Eve Bell” becomes a global festival where citizens become protagonists (Korea)

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 25th that it will hold the largest-ever citizen-led “New Year's Eve Bell Event” in the Bosingak area starting at 11 p.m. on the 31st of this month.
This year's event was centered around a large-scale "Pixmob" performance, in which approximately 15,000 citizens gathered at Bosingak and participated in person.
A New Year's Eve festival in Seoul is being prepared. Pixmob is a lighting technology that wirelessly controls LED wristbands worn by spectators. A 30-meter diameter LED light will rise from behind Bosingak.
The first sunrise of the year is also attracting attention. In addition, the Tower of Light will shine high into the sky in the center of the Bosingak intersection, praying for the coexistence and prosperity of humanity, and a sound and media art piece will be combined to express the reverberation of bells.
The 33rd bell ringing to welcome the new year will feature a "soundscape" that will be played out over the course of the year.
Citizens will participate. The city will also take safety measures to ensure that citizens can spend the New Year safely and conveniently. Approximately 800 safety management personnel will be stationed around Bosingak and will cooperate closely with the police and other related agencies.
Various traffic measures will be implemented to provide convenience to citizens returning home late at night. In addition, to prevent safety accidents caused by crowding inside stations, Jonggak Station, which is closest to the event venue, will be closed.
The trains will run non-stop from 11 p.m. on the 31st to 1 a.m. the following day, and subway users will be advised to spread out their trips among nearby stations.
Seoul Metropolitan Government's Culture Director Lee Hoi-seung said, "The New Year's Eve bell event in 2025 will be led by citizens.
"It will be a New Year's Eve event where everyone can come together," he said, adding, "With strict safety management in line with the status of a global event representing Seoul, we hope that all citizens can welcome the New Year safely and enjoyably."
"We will make every effort to prepare so that this can be achieved."
