China's cotton production up 9.7% year-on-year to 6.164 million tons - Chinese report

According to cotton production data recently released by the National Bureau of Statistics of China, the nation's cotton cultivation area in 2024 is expected to increase 1.8% year-on-year to 42.574 million mu (about 2.84 million hectares).
This is an increase of 752,000 mu (approximately 50,000 hectares) from the previous year. Unit production increased by 7.8% year-on-year, and total production increased by 9.7% year-on-year to 6.164 million tons.
The total amount of cotton produced in Xinjiang increased by 546,000 tons from the previous year. Looking at the cotton cultivation area by region, the cotton cultivation area in Xinjiang increased by 3.3% to 36,719,000 mu (about 2.45 million hectares),
Prices and profits also remained stable. In other regions, the area of cotton cultivation is generally on the decline. The area of cotton cultivation in the Yangtze River Basin fell 1.6% to 3,021,000 mu (about 20
million hectares, and the cotton cultivation area in the Yellow River basin fell 13.6% to 2.463 million mu (about 160,000 hectares).
Due to the increase in cultivation area and production volume per unit, the total cotton production in the country
Xinjiang cotton production increased 11.2% to 5.686 million tons, up 574,000 tons from the previous year. The Yangtze River Basin cotton production increased 0.8% to 220,000 tons.
Production in the Yellow River basin was 206,000 tons, down 13.7% year-on-year.
