「3万8000ウォンの靴が38万ウォンに」…日本人がソウルの地下商店街でぼったくりに遭ったと主張
”38,000 won shoes now 380,000 won”... Japanese man claims to have been ripped off in Seoul underground shopping mall
A Japanese man who bought shoes at an underground shopping mall in Seoul's Express Bus Terminal Station claimed he was ripped off for more than 10 times the price.
According to JTBC's "Case Leader" on the 25th, the informant, Mr. A, was arrested on the 23rd of this month by a Japanese man staying in Korea.
My friend B contacted me and said, "I think I've been scammed." B said, "I thought I bought two pairs of shoes for 38,000 won (about 4,000 yen) at a store in the underground shopping mall at the Express Bus Terminal.
However, when I looked at the receipt, the total was 380,000 won (about 40,000 yen)." Thinking that there had been a mistake in the payment process, Mr. A and Mr. B visited the store together.
However, the store owner said, "I paid for two pairs of shoes, one for 250,000 won (about 26,000 yen) and the other for 180,000 won (about 19,000 yen)."
The shopkeeper claimed that he had shown the price list at the time of purchase, but B said, "I never looked at the price list, and the price the shopkeeper showed me at the time was 38,000 won.
In the end, B requested to return at least one pair of shoes he had not used, and canceled the payment of 380,000 won, and refunded the 258,000 won for the pair he had used.
Although Ms. A received a partial refund and left the store, she posted on social media that there was another suspicious point.
"When I posted the whole story on social media, a netizen saw the photo of the shoes and the product number and said that they looked like synthetic leather," said A. "I've heard a lot of people in the industry say that they're not good at making shoes.
"When I searched for the product number with the help of working internet users, I found the same product being sold for less than 50,000 won (approximately 5,000 yen)," he claimed.
He also said, "I have already purchased and used the product, so I have no intention of asking the store owner for anything."
"I provided the information because I don't want people to become victims," he said.
