In the all good "Squid Game 2," T.O.P.'s performance was disappointing. He withdrew from retirement and returned as an actor, but the result was a disappointment.

The Netflix series "Squid Game 2" was released to the world last March 26, and T.O.P. played the role of Thanos, a drug-using rapper and runner-up in a hip-hop survival competition.

His role was perfect in the sense that it was grounded in reality. As it should be, T.O.P. had previously been sentenced to a suspended prison sentence for smoking marijuana. As a drug-addicted rapper, Thanos was a perfect fit for T.O.P. He was tailor-made for T.O.P.

But his unveiled performance broke the immersion of the play. He and the character fit, but his frequent enunciations, his embarrassed mouth and raps, and his wide-eyed, dull, awkward facial expressions hampered immersion at key moments.

Also, T.O.P.'s portion of the play was larger than expected. He was often difficult to watch, perhaps due to his somewhat awkward acting, as he shook up the rules and pushed different participants around without any malicious intent, which contributed to the conflict.

His performance was met with conflicting reactions from netizens, many of whom questioned whether T.O.P. had to play Thanos at all. In particular, director Hwang Dong-hyuk expressed confidence that he would be satisfied with the result when it came to his casting, but it was not a performance worth being satisfied.
