尹錫悦大統領「務安空港の事故、痛ましい...状況の克服、国民とともにする」
President Yoon Seok-yeol: ”The accident at Muan Airport is tragic... I will overcome the situation together with the people”
South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol issued a message of condolence following the passenger plane crash at Muan International Airport in South Jeolla Province.
This was the first time in two weeks since the impeachment bill was passed. On the 29th, President Yoon Seok-yeol posted on his Facebook page, "A tragic accident occurred at Muan Airport today. Precious lives were lost.
"We would like to express our deepest condolences and sympathy to those who lost their loved ones and to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones," he wrote, adding, "It is an extremely painful experience." He continued, "The government will do its utmost to resolve the accident and provide support to the victims.
I believe that they will be able to help us overcome this difficult situation as soon as possible. I hope that they will make every effort to ensure the safety of firefighters and all rescue personnel, even in this tense situation."
According to fire officials, at 9:03 a.m. on the same day, Jeju Air Flight 7C2216, which departed from Bangkok, Thailand, was about to land on the runway at Muan Airport.
The aircraft crashed when it struck the runway wall, causing severe damage to the fuselage and a fire. All 181 passengers on board were rescued.
All but two passengers were pronounced dead, and authorities believe the cause of the accident was a landing gear failure caused by a bird strike.
Meanwhile, President Yoon Seok-yeol's public message was released two weeks after the impeachment bill was passed.
"I will pause for a while, but the journey toward the future that we have been walking together with the people for the past two and a half years must never stop. I will never give up," he said in a statement to the nation.
However, the ruling party is expected to launch a full-scale investigation into President Yoon Seok-yeol on charges of treason, and President Yoon will likely express his position directly through social media.
On that day, President Yoon Seok-yeol did not comply with a third summons request from the Office of Investigation into Corruption by High-Ranking Public Officials.
