At around 9:07 am on the 29th, JEJU AIR Flight 7C2216 from Bangkok, Thailand, with 181 passengers on board, crashed when it attempted to land on the runway of Muan International Airport. This resulted in the tragic death of 179 people. The passenger aircraft crashed into the facilities around the runway and was semi-collapsed and engulfed in flames.
The recovery authorities have taken all the victims except two survivors out of the 181 passengers on board, secured part of the black box of the crashed aircraft and are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
The Government has designated the 4th January next year as the national mourning period, and has set up joint incense-burning stations at the Muan Airport site and in 17 cities and provinces across the country, while all government offices, local authorities and public institutions will fly flags at half-staff.
V enlisted in the Army on the 11th December 2023 for active service and is currently serving in the Military Police Special Task Force under the direct control of the Army's 2nd Corps Command in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do. His scheduled date of discharge is 10 June 2025.
