A New Year's poll asking about the support for South Korean presidential candidates showed that Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung was in an overwhelming lead with 35% of the votes.
The JoongAng Ilbo commissioned the polling agency M-Brain Public to conduct a telephone survey of 1,006 men and women aged 18 or older who live in South Korea from December 29 to 30.
In a face-to-face survey, Lee's approval rating was 35%. Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo followed with 8% and People Power Party former representative Han Dong-hoon with 6%.
Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moon-soo and Seoul Mayor Oh Sehun each had an approval rating of 5%, while National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik had an approval rating of 4%.

" Rep. Lee Hyun-soo of the People Power Party and Rep. Ahn Cheol-soo of the People Power Party each received 2%. The number of respondents who said there were no suitable candidates reached 19%.
Lee has distinguished himself among both progressive and moderate voters.
8% supported Lee. Lee's approval rating was also high in conservative areas, with 21% in Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province, 21% in Busan and Ursa.
In the Ulsan and Gyeongnam areas, 33% said they supported Lee. By party support, 71% of Democratic Party supporters said they supported Lee.
Meanwhile, the survey showed that the pan-progressive candidates received 44% support, while the pan-conservative candidates received 33%. Similarly, the approval ratings for the Democratic Party were 44%.
The People's Power Party received 29%, the Fatherland Reform Party 4%, and the New Reform Party 3%. In response to the question, "Who is the best candidate among the conservative camp?", the most popular responses were former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min (13%), Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo (11%),

The approval ratings of the pan-progressive bloc were as follows: Lee Jae-myung (35%), former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon (7%), Governor Kim Dong-yeon and Chairman Woo Won-sik (6% each).
Then there was former Prime Minister Kim Boo-gyeom. 33% of respondents answered "no."
