At around 9:07 a.m. on December 29, 2024, Jeju Air Flight 7C2216 from Bangkok, Thailand attempted to land on the runway at Muan International Airport.
While watching the plane, the plane crashed. The plane collided with the outer wall of the runway, partially destroying it and causing a fire. There were 181 people on board, including 157 passengers and 6 crew members, and rescuers were called to the scene.
All but two passengers died. In response, MBC canceled the broadcast of the 2024 MBC Drama Awards, which was scheduled to air on December 30 last year, and instead aired a pre-recorded version on the same day.
