People's Power: ”If the charge of treason is to be removed from the grounds for impeachment against President Yoon Seok-yeol, the National Assembly must vote again”... Protest visit to the National Assembly Speaker's office (South Korea)
The People Power Party leadership and senior lawmakers announced on the 6th that they would withdraw the charge of treason from the grounds for impeaching President Yoon Seok-yeol by the National Assembly impeachment panel led by the Democratic Party of Korea.
The National Assembly Speaker, Won-sik, protested and demanded a second vote on the impeachment motion. Park Hyung-soo, the chief deputy floor leader of the People's Power Party, spoke to reporters in front of the National Assembly Speaker's office that afternoon.
"Regarding the deletion or change of the part about the crime of insurrection from the grounds for impeachment, I said, 'If that's the case, then we need to have a second vote in the Diet, and we need to have a second vote.'
"The two most important grounds for impeachment are that the declaration of martial law is unconstitutional and the part about the crime of treason. It would be better to delete or change the part about the crime of treason," said Park, the senior vice floor leader.
"This is a very important change in the grounds for prosecution, so the deliberation and voting rights of the lawmakers who saw the contents and voted have been violated," he said.
"The impeachment trial is moving forward with weak national consensus," Park told reporters.
"If the bill is passed, the nation will continue to be divided and there is a risk that national unity will not be achieved. We are concerned about such instability."
Next, Park spoke of the responsibility of the president, including the allegations against Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok, who is acting as the president and Minister of Strategy and Finance.
He criticized the Democratic Party of Korea, which has been pushing back against the government, saying, "National stability is our top priority. This is a very inappropriate remark." He added, "Impeachment is a last resort. If you don't agree with something, you can impeach it. It's a very inappropriate remark."
They are enemies of principle."
