The film depicts the tense pursuit and suspicion between the Koreans. It documents An Jung-geun's heroic uprising in Harbin in 1909. Hyun Bin plays the role of An Jung-geun, a lieutenant general in the Korean Army's staff.
Unlike other films about the Harbin uprising, the film "Harbin" does not feature any close-ups of An Jung-geun, not even of the exact moment An Jung-geun assassinated Ito Hirobumi.
This was the intention of director Woo Min-ho, who directed the film. In an interview with Herald POP, Woo Min-ho said, "I didn't want it to look perfect," and "I wanted it to look like us.
He continued, "In 'Insiders' and 'KCIA Namsan Chiefs', there were a lot of close-ups of the main character Exclusive, but in 'H
"There aren't many close-ups of An Jung-geun in 'Rubin,'" he said, "I didn't want anyone to stand out or be portrayed as a hero. I think it was because of the sacrifices of so many people that An Jung-geun was able to pull the trigger of his gun."
He also said, "As a director, I wanted to shoot the heroic act in close-up, but I wanted to look at that moment from a distance."
"I wanted to shoot from the air, not from the perspective of the general public, but from the perspective of our fallen comrades. So when An Jung-geun shouted 'Long live the Republic of Korea,' I told him to shout it loud enough for them to hear," he emphasized.
Meanwhile, the film "Harbin" is on the verge of drawing four million viewers.
