Presidential Security Service chief Park Jong-jun submits resignation to acting president Choi Sang-mok (South Korea)
On the morning of the 10th, after attending a police summons for questioning, Park Jong-jun, head of the National Guard, submitted his resignation to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance Choi Sang-mok, acting president, through his secretary.
The Presidential Security Service announced this through the media on the same day. The Ministry of Strategy and Finance immediately announced that it had accepted Park's resignation.
Previously, Director Park had not responded to the police's two previous requests to appear, but on this third day, he himself responded.
Police have been investigating Park since 10 a.m. on the same day on suspicion of obstruction of justice. Even if Park resigns, the Security Service is prepared to prevent the arrest of President Yoon Seok-yeol.
President Yoon's lawyer, Yoon Kap-geun, also said in the announcement that "because the director is outside the security area, the deputy director will be in charge until the director returns, according to regulations.
As a result, Kim Sung-Hoon, deputy chief of the presidential guard, will act as the acting chief of the presidential guard. A People Power (ruling party) source said, "Park said, 'It is unreasonable to issue an arrest warrant for the president.'
"By resigning, he appears to have sent a heartfelt message that he hopes the bank will prevent any scandals from being published."
