Two North Korean soldiers were captured by Ukrainian forces on the Kursk battlefield in Russia. The National Intelligence Service has decided to continue sharing related information with Ukrainian intelligence authorities.
The National Intelligence Service said on the 12th that it had confirmed that Ukrainian forces had captured two North Korean soldiers at the Kursk Battlefield on the 9th.
President Volodymyr Zelensky of the United States announced that the North Korean soldiers had been captured and that they had been transferred to Kyiv and were being interrogated by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
It was revealed that a South Korean interpreter who is a member of the North Korean military's military team will be taking part in the interrogation. The NIS said that one of the captured North Korean soldiers "arrived in Russia in November last year and received military training from the Russian side for a week before being deployed to the battlefield."
"I was transferred, but I thought I was being transferred to receive training, not to fight," he said. The North Korean soldier reportedly found out he had been deployed after arriving in Russia. He said he was in combat.
It was also learned that the North Korean military had lost a significant number of troops, and that he had been unable to eat or drink for four to five days before being captured by Ukrainian forces.
The NIS said it was "maintaining close cooperation with Ukrainian intelligence agencies regarding North Korean prisoners of war."
We plan to continue sharing relevant information."
