ウクライナ派遣の北朝鮮軍、死傷者3000人超…遺族は「大砲の餌」と自嘲
North Korean troops deployed to Ukraine suffer more than 3,000 casualties; bereaved families call them ”cannon fodder”
South Korea's National Intelligence Service announced on the 13th that the number of casualties among North Korean soldiers deployed to the Ukraine war is expected to reach 3,000.
Lee Seong-gwon of the ruling People Power Party, who is the joint ruling and opposition party secretary of the National Assembly Intelligence Committee
The lawmaker and Park Seong-won, a lawmaker from the main opposition Democratic Party, revealed that the National Intelligence Service reported this information at a closed-door meeting held in the National Assembly on the same day.
The institute said, "The fighting area of North Korean troops dispatched to Russia has expanded to the entire Kursk region," and added, "The damage suffered by the North Korean troops is 300 killed and over 2,700 injured, with the number of casualties increasing."
The institute also reported that, "After analyzing recent combat footage of the North Korean military, we found that the North Koreans were using pointless long-distance drone sniping and rear fire support."
"The main reasons for the large number of casualties are the lack of understanding of modern warfare, such as unpredictable assault tactics, and the way Russia is utilizing the North Korean military."
According to the institute's report, a note found in the possession of the deceased soldier stated that he had planned to commit suicide by blowing himself up before being captured alive by North Korean authorities.
Recently, a North Korean soldier was in danger of being captured by the Ukrainian military and was greeted with a message of "General Kim Jong Un."
There have also been confirmed cases where soldiers screamed, pulled out grenades and attempted suicide, but were shot to death. However, the institute did not reveal the specific time or place where North Korean soldiers detonated the bombs.
The institute said that two North Korean prisoners of war recently captured by Ukrainian authorities belonged to the Reconnaissance General Bureau, and that the North Korean authorities had informed them that they would be "treated as heroes" without any promise of a salary for deployment.
In relation to this, Rep. Lee said, "The prisoner has never expressed an intention to go to South Korea," and added, "The National Intelligence Service believes that the North Korean military is also a member of our country's constitutional values."
"Since the North Korean soldiers are considered civilians, the will of the captured North Korean soldiers is of utmost importance, and therefore the North Korean government is willing to hold active discussions with Ukraine if they are asked to defect," the statement said.
The institute also reported that information about the deployment to Russia has been circulating secretly within North Korea, with the families of the deployed troops mocking themselves by calling them "slave soldiers and cannon fodder."
It has also been reported that people who have no connection to the country are responding with hopes for Russia's assistance and improvements to their lives.
"They will likely focus on securing military and economic rewards and consider a visit to Russia by Kim Jong Un in the first half of this year."
