The court sentenced the operator of the anti-otaku camp, Mr. A, to two years in prison, suspended for three years, and ordered him to pay a fine of approximately 200 million won.
The court said, "The defamation is serious in that it has caused damage to the victims that is difficult to recover from.
"Appropriate punishment is necessary. The defendant's crime is serious in that he repeatedly criticized famous celebrities and posted provocative content on his YouTube channel, and earned a considerable amount of money from it."
However, "Mr. A has admitted his mistake at the latest and is reflecting on it, and has deposited 20 million won (approximately 2.1 million yen) with Mr. Jang (Jang Won Young), totaling 60 million won.
The reason for the sentence was that Mr. A had been involved in the management of "IVE" Jang Won Young and "aespa" from October 2021 to June 2023.
He is accused of posting false videos of seven celebrities, including EXO's SUHO, and defaming them. Five of them were accused of posting insulting videos and obstructing the management office's business.
It has been confirmed that A earned approximately 250 million won (approximately 26.8 million yen) through the YouTube channel in question.
At the first hearing in September last year, Mr. A admitted to making the video but denied the remaining charges.
At the closing hearing held in , the prosecution asked the court to sentence Mr. A to four years in prison and to impose a fine of 200 million won.
At the time, Mr. A's lawyer said, "The defendant is currently engaged in volunteer work.
"The victim is currently receiving treatment," he said, stating that he is willing to reach an agreement with the victim and asking for leniency.
