The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed suit against Nova Labs, the company that developed the open-source Helium Network.
On the 20th (local time), the SEC filed a complaint against Nova Labs.
Labs has released "Hotspots," a device that mines its own cryptocurrency, HYERIUM (HNT).
" and Discovery Mapping, a program that allows users to exchange their personal data for cryptocurrency assets.
The lawsuit alleges that the company sold unregistered securities while offering "Registered Securities Mapping" to its customers.
The term "unregistered securities" is widely known in the cryptocurrency industry and was coined by Gary Gensler.
Under Chairman Gensler, the SEC has filed several charges on this basis over the years.
The complaint was filed just days before Gensler resigned ahead of President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration on January 20.
That's what was done.
