China's unemployment rate for 16-24 year olds falls for fourth straight month to 15.7% - Chinese media

The National Bureau of Statistics of China recently released statistical data on unemployment rates by age for December 2024. The unemployment rate for those aged 16 to 24 in both urban and rural areas nationwide fell by 0.4 percentage points from the previous month.
The unemployment rate for those aged 25-29 was 15.7%, down 0.1 percentage point to 6.6%, and the unemployment rate for those aged 30-59 was 3.9%, up 0.1 percentage point. All figures exclude students enrolled in schools.
The unemployment rate for those aged 16 to 24 has fallen for four consecutive months. According to the bureau's data, the surveyed unemployment rate for urban and rural areas nationwide in December was 5.1%. The surveyed unemployment rate for the whole of 2024 was 5.1%.
The average unemployment rate for 2024 was 5.1%, down 0.1 percentage points from the previous year. Looking at the unemployment rate for 2024 overall, the unemployment rate for each month remained relatively stable at 5.0% to 5.3%.
Although the unemployment rate rose temporarily in May, it remained at a low level for most of the month.
